Relax, Nothing Is Ever Wasted

If I could have only 3 things on a desert island, one would be a dictionary. I never said I was practical. Being a word nerd has other perks, like getting to "Genius" (90% of possible points) in the NY Times Spelling Bee daily.

I hate to miss both the commonplace words and the archaic words the NYT has deemed unobscure. I was once robbed of a perfect score or "Queen Bee" status because of the word "pelf".

I was so frustrated and mad at the Times that I never forgot it. And then one day it was the word that clinched my "Queen Bee" crown in another puzzle.

My point being, nothing is ever wasted in life.

I'm not encouraging you to focus on silver linings in order not to feel pain. Whatever life lessons we learn through The School of Hard Knocks will always come in handy. Wisdom is earned, not bestowed.

Maybe the value is found in a sliver of self-awareness, that spares you bad decisions. Maybe that shameful moment reveals a truth you are avoiding. Maybe it's the burr under the saddle that prods you into action.

Maybe it's the useless bit of info that pissed you off but then helps you survive on a desert island, McGyver style.

Life's "wasted moments" when composted, become fertile ground for the future. Thank them rather than get mad at the waste. You'll feel more ease and more good vibes means a longer, happier life.
