What I Learned From Ship 30 For 30
I started my journey home on a dark and moonless night.
In a fit of bravado I chose to back out into the darkness rather than turn around in my cousin’s driveway. I backed up right onto the neighbor’s lawn. Which was on a downslope. After days of rain.
My wheels spun in the muck. It got worse.
As he walked out of his house, shirtless and covered in tattoos, the neighbor said “Watch out, there’s a 500 gallon propane tank buried there.”
After a long struggle we pushed the car out onto the road without blowing up the neighborhood, and I hit the road.
This reminds me of my first Ship 30 for 30 journey. Here’s what you’re in for:
It’s uncomfortable. Although writing, like backing up, is something I did all the time, I didn’t do it on social media, which made it challenging. But practice breeds comfort. You won’t be stuck in the mud for long.
Writing helps you clarify your thoughts. It led me home to my heart. The road may have twists and turns but you will know yourself in a way you don’t now.
Discovery is found only a few feet at a time ahead of the headlights. You may have a big ol’ map, but the road of your discovery will unfold in small increments.
You may risk blowing up, but you can rely on the kindness of strangers. Shippers became friends united in a common purpose, pushing me towards my destination.
Bon voyage.
