Reverse Advent Calendar Your Wealth

My abundance of riches after forgetting about my Palais Des Thés Advent Calendar.

Ever since the age of 6, I’ve adored Advent calendars.

I fell in love with them with the very first one my WASPY grandmother sent (a ship whose portholes opened onto holiday scenes). I loved the daily ritual, and the delightful surprise behind the window.

I usually buy two -- one for home and one for the office.

For the second year in a row, I bought a Palais Des Thés Calendar because I drink gallons of tea every day – my favorite means of procrastination. I am proud to report I planned ahead and purchased it in October, feeling very smug about having Xmas under control. I then made the mistake of tucking it away for safekeeping.

Out of sight, out of mind. 👀🧠

It took me until December 5th to realize that I had missed my daily office treats. 🤦🏻‍♀️

That is why I now have 5 different fancy pants teabags to deploy in service of work avoidance.

Such abundance! Such riches! Such choices!

All of this made of me think of the power of compounding, the 8th wonder of the world.

Because when it comes to your money, there is no more powerful nor magical force than compounding the return on your investment.

Time is your friend.

The sooner you start, the longer you leave your dough alone, the greater your riches.

It’s the opposite of an Advent calendar.

You don’t want to be checking on or consuming your treasure (account balances) daily.

Here's why --

The market swoons will make you want to vomit.

You’ll be tempted to sell out at market bottoms, and if you do, may miss the big up days that turbocharge long-term returns.

Do what I did by accident with my Advent calendar instead.

Put your long-term wealth building money “out of sight and out of mind” for big chunks of time.

You’re more likely to have an abundance of choices waiting for you.
